Barış Alper Saga: Record-Breaking Bid Challenges Galatasaray’s Resolve Galatasaray are facing renewed speculation around Barış Alper Yılmaz. Reports in Turkey suggested that NEOM, the Saudi Pro League newcomers, have made a staggering offer worth over €10 million plus bonuses in annual wages. The size of the package is said to have unsettled the player, who has reportedly skipped training for the past three days.
Despite the astronomical proposal, Galatasaray remain determined to keep their star winger. Club officials insist that unless an unrefusable offer north of €50 million arrives, they have no intention of selling. Another layer to the saga is the sell-on clause: Barış’s former club reportedly holds a 20% stake in any future transfer, which Galatasaray intend to push onto NEOM should negotiations proceed.
The club’s management, alongside coach Okan Buruk, have reiterated that their priority is to protect the core squad and continue their title pursuit with key players intact.
Agent Statement (Translation of Official Release)
Barış Alper’s representative, Maldan, issued a strong-worded statement:
“All transfer offers have been communicated to us by the Galatasaray board in face-to-face meetings and were rejected with the club’s full knowledge. However, what disturbed us was not the rejections but the manner of communication. Barış received extremely important offers over the past two windows, but chose to stay for the sake of Galatasaray’s ambitions. The board even promised him this summer: ‘If an offer comes, we won’t block your way.’ Yet today, we are faced with a different approach, which deeply disappoints us. Barış has contributed significantly in five trophies won and deserves respect for his sacrifices. I must also say that fans should know: Barış has always fought honorably on and off the pitch. But now, it is time for his voice to be heard.”
