Premier League Game Week 4 Roundup

It was another big Premier League week as there was plenty to talk about. Arsenal kept their perfect start, City edged a controversial Manchester derby, while Leeds battered Newcastle on Monday night. 

Sunderland 0-2 Arsenal 

Arsenal got the job done at the Stadium of Light to keep up their winning start, but it was far from comfortable. 

Sunderland had a huge chance to take the lead when Enzo Le Fée stepped up from the spot, only for David Raya to make a massive save and turn the penalty onto the post. 

Just two minutes later, summer signing Bruno Guimaraes produced an absolute worldie from outside the box to put Arsenal ahead. 

Sunderland pushed for an equaliser, but Bukayo Saka wrapped things up from the penalty spot in stoppage time after Reinildo was sent off - A proper gritty win for the champions. 

Chelsea 2-2 Hull 

Chelsea looked to be cruising when Morgan Rogers put them ahead early, but Hull turned the game on its head before half-time with two goals from Mohamed Belloumi in six minutes. 

João Pedro rescued a point for Chelsea after the break, but the Blues couldn't find a winner despite late pressure.

 Hull continue to impress on their return to the Premier League and remain unbeaten, while Chelsea's defensive problems continue to be a growing concern. 

Bournemouth 2-2 Brentford 

Kevin Schade was the standout player as his brace earned Brentford a point on the south coast. 

Schade opened the scoring before Justin Kluivert levelled, with Marcus Tavernier then putting Bournemouth ahead early in the second half. 

Schade struck again just four minutes later to make it 2-2, with Bournemouth coming closest to stealing it late when a deflected effort hit the post. 

Bournemouth are still waiting for their first league win. 

Crystal Palace 2-3 Ipswich 

A proper rollercoaster at Selhurst Park. Anan Khalaili gave Palace an early lead before Emersonn levelled for Ipswich. 

Things got worse for Palace when Axel Disasi was sent off, and Leif Davis headed Ipswich in front just before half-time. 

Jørgen Strand Larsen brought Palace level in the second half, and they looked set to rescue a point, but Zian Flemming popped up with a 90th-minute winner to give Ipswich all three points.

The struggles continue for the Eagles, but what a win it was for the visitors. 

Aston Villa 1-2 Nottingham Forest 

Villa's miserable start to the league continued as Forest grabbed their first win of the season.

Liam Delap opened the scoring just after half-time before Alysson finally gave Villa their first Premier League goal of the campaign. 

It looked like they had rescued a point, but Igor Jesus struck late to win it for Forest.

 Villa were also forced to finish with ten men after Ian Maatsen went off injured, adding to an already frustrating afternoon for Unai Emery. 

Liverpool 0-0 Fulham 

Not one Liverpool fan will want to remember. 

The Reds dominated possession but couldn't find a way through a stubborn Fulham side, with Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz among those unable to make the difference. 

Fulham defended brilliantly and even had chances to win it, meaning Liverpool remain unbeaten but have now drawn three of their opening four league games and have not won in their last four league games at Anfield! 

Tottenham 0-0 Everton 

Another frustrating afternoon, especially for Spurs. Tottenham are still waiting for their first Premier League goal of the season after another goalless draw, with Jordan Pickford making a late save from Lucas Bergvall to keep Everton's clean sheet. 

Spurs have now gone through their opening four league games without scoring, an incredibly worrying start. 

Coventry 0-5 Brighton 

Brighton absolutely ran riot at the CBS Arena. 

Charalampos Kostoulas opened the scoring before Malick Yalcouyé doubled the lead. 

Taiwo Awoniyi was then sent off for Coventry, effectively killing the game, with Pascal Groß scoring from the spot, Lewis Dunk smashing in a stunning fourt,h and Yasin Ayari adding a fifth late on. 

Coventry are now bottom with four defeats, no points and still no goals. 

Manchester United 0-1 Manchester City 

City somehow came away from Old Trafford with all three points despite playing with ten men for more than an hour. 

Phil Foden was sent off in the first half, but United couldn't make their numerical advantage count, with Marcus Rashford and Kobbie Mainoo both hitting the woodwork.

 Erling Haaland eventually broke the deadlock after the hour mark to win the derby for City.

This means that within a year, Man United failed to win three times against a team with 10 men - Everton, Newcastle and now Man City! 

The City goal was hugely controversial, which sparked massive debates between fans and pundits. 

Pro Ref released a statement after the game saying the goal shouldn’t have stood, so the big question is when there will ever be any consistency regarding VAR decisions in what’s known as the ‘best league in the world.’ 

Leeds 4-1 Newcastle 

Leeds finished the weekend with one of the performances of the weekend, smashing Newcastle 4-1 at Elland Road. 

A Lewis Miley own goal and Jayden Bogle's header put Leeds 2-0 up before Dominic Calvert-Lewin added a brilliant third just before half-time. 

Noah Okafor made it four after the break, with Bazoumana Touré grabbing a late consolation for Newcastle. 

Leeds move up to third, while it was Newcastle boss Matthias Jaissle's first defeat in charge.
