Coventry 0-5 Brighton: Brighton add to Coventry’s woeful start to the Premier League season as Lampard’s men are yet to win

Brighton were dominant in today’s fixture, putting five past the newly promoted side as Coventry’s Premier League return is going from bad to worse. 

After three defeats without scoring, Coventry were hoping for a response at home to Brighton. 

Instead, they were dismantled 5-0 in what quickly became another miserable afternoon for Frank Lampard’s side. 

Coventry created chances and forced Verbruggen into some excellent saves, but Brighton eventually found the breakthrough. 

Kostoulas produced a brilliant finish to put the Seagulls 1-0 up before the break flicking the ball from his chest to his head as he wrapped his half volley into the bottom corner

Then came the second half and things went from bad to worse instantly. 

Yalcouyé doubled Brighton’s advantage just five minutes after the restart, before Coventry’s afternoon went from bad to worse moments later. 

Awoniyi was shown a straight red card for catching Maxim De Cuyper in the face with his arm, leaving Coventry with ten men and an almost impossible task. 

Brighton took full advantage. 

Pascal Groß made it 3-0 from the penalty spot after Bobby Thomas brought down Kostoulas, and from there the visitors were completely in control. 

Then came the goal of the afternoon. 

Lewis Dunk picked up the ball around 25 yards out and absolutely banged it into the top corner.

It was an outrageous strike, one that already has to be in the conversation for goal of the season - the Brighton bench couldn’t contain themselves. 

And just to rub salt into the wounds, Yasin Ayari added a fifth late on to complete a brutal afternoon for Coventry. 

For Lampard and Coventry, the Premier League return simply could not have gone much worse. Four games, four defeats, no goals scored and still no points. 

Brighton, meanwhile, are looking comfortable near the top end of the table, with this win pushing them up to fourth. 

The Seagulls now face a hell of a challenge in their next game against the champions, while Coventry will be hoping for a reaction when they travel to Nottingham Forest.

Right now, though, it’s difficult to see where that first point  or even first goal is coming from.
