Leeds vs Brentford: Perfect Starts Collide at Elland Road

Fresh off the back of their emphatic dismantling of Roberto De Zerbi’s new-look Tottenham side, Brentford head to Elland Road to face Daniel Farke’s Leeds. The Yorkshire outfit also left their first game of the season as victors, all thanks to Anton Stach’s late winner against Nottingham Forest.

Sunday afternoon’s hosts will be looking to attack this year’s campaign and build on the impressive work manned by Farke last season in staying in the division, and push on to increase their league stature.

It would be a similar story for Keith Andrews and Brentford, who surprised the masses with their continuation of positive football last season after Thomas Frank’s absence had the Bees tipped by many to face relegation that campaign.

Yet it is Leeds who will have more confidence of grabbing the win, thanks to their impressive eight-game home unbeaten streak over Brentford.

The visitors have a chance to write their own chapter in the history of the club, as if they were to win this Sunday afternoon, it would become only the second time they have won their opening two games of a season since the 2006/07 season.

More remarkably, it would be the only other time the Bees have managed that feat in the top division since 1935/36.

Leeds’ new Welsh winger, Harry Wilson, has scored four goals against Sunday’s opponents, the joint-most he has scored against any single club, along with Tottenham.

Only five teams have managed more points than Leeds’ 39 since December 2025, with only three teams winning more on home soil over the same time period.

Ilia Gruev has returned from injury and could be in contention for a place in the squad. However, despite Willy Gnonto and Gabriel Gudmundsson returning to training, neither is expected to be included in the team this weekend.

For Brentford, it is uncertain whether or not new £40 million signing El Hadji Malick Diouf will be able to play due to registration timings for his transfer last week.

Antoni Milambo and Sepp van den Berg will both remain away from the first-team squad with injury.

With the stage set for both sides to become the great underdogs in this year’s Premier League campaign, Sunday afternoon will let the world know which side really has the bit between their teeth.
