Everton 2-2 Manchester United: Maitland-Niles screamer snatches point at Hill Dickinson

Maitland-Niles scored a dramatic last minute equaliser to clinch a point for Everton on his

debut for the club.

Mbeumo had put United ahead just a minute into the restart with a superb shot into the

bottom corner, before George fired past Lammens to put Everton level.

Sesko thought he had won the game for the visitors as Pickford could only parry his header

into the back of the net, before Maitland-Niles stunned the Hill Dickinson with an outstanding long-range effort.

The first half was a cagey affair with United posing more danger than the home side.

United’s threat predominantly came from the left wing as Rashford caused difficulty for Röhl,

who temporarily switched sides with Mykolenko to help cover the danger.

In the eighth minute, Fernandes volleyed against the bar after Shaw and Rashford linked

well on the left.

Ten minutes later, Rashford picked out Cunha on the edge of the box, but the Brazilian

spurned the chance and fired over.

Everton did not record a touch in the opposition box between the ninth and fortieth minute;

their lack of firepower was typified by a comical miskick from Barry in United’s penalty area.

The home side did end the half more strongly, however, as Barry headed over the bar in his

team’s best chance of the half.

A minute into the restart, United found the moment of attacking quality that had proved

elusive in the first half.

Mbeumo picked up the ball on the right wing, dribbled inside and fired brilliantly into the

bottom corner to put his side ahead.

But Everton responded brightly.

Johnson drove at United’s defence and Lammens could only watch in hope as his deflected

shot went over the bar.

Minutes later, Barry showed great skill to dummy his shot past Martinez, only to be

intercepted by a superb block by Shaw.

United nearly doubled their lead as Rashford found Cunha after a fantastic solo run, but

Tarkowski managed to tackle the Brazilian brilliantly from behind.

By the seventieth minute, Rashford had come off for Dorgu and Grealish had replaced

Johnson.

These two substitutions changed the game.

United lost their attacking intent while Grealish caused problems for Dalot, who was taken off by Carrick after picking up a yellow card for a foul on the Englishman.

With less than ten minutes to go, George found the ball on the right side of the box and fired past Lammens into the roof of the net.

Shaw had given George too much space for the goal, but the full back redeemed himself five minutes later when he found Sesko in the box, whose header fired past Pickford.

The game seemed to be heading towards a United victory. Maitland-Niles had other ideas.

In what was effectively the last kick of the game, the full-back scored a wonder goal into the

top left corner from around twenty-five yards.

It was only his second ever Premier League goal, eight years after his first for Arsenal.

United will need to improve as they host league leaders Manchester City next weekend,

while Everton travel to underperforming Tottenham.
