Brighton 1-1 Leeds; Vuskovic denies Leeds victory at the Amex

Brighton & Hove Albion fought back to draw 1-1 with Leeds United at the Amex, with Lukas Vuskovic cancelling out Jayden Bogle’s opener.

Leeds looked on course for another victory over Brighton after Jayden Bogle gave the visitors the lead in the 15th minute.

However, Vuskovic headed the hosts level in the 71st minute, scoring his first goal for the club, ensuring Brighton earned a point after being largely frustrated for long periods.

Leeds had the clearer opportunities before the break, including a huge chance for Dominic Calvert-Lewin after he rounded Bart Verbruggen, only for Lewis Dunk to clear the ball off the line.

Ao Tanaka also struck the crossbar as Leeds threatened to extend their advantage.

The Japan international then thought he had doubled the visitors' lead after guiding Anton Stach’s free-kick past Verbruggen, but the effort was ruled out for offside following a VAR check.

Bogle’s opener came after Tanaka missed an opportunity before picking out his teammate, who tapped home from close range.

Brighton struggled to turn their pressure into clear-cut opportunities, with Leeds frustrating the hosts through their defensive organisation and threat on the counter.

The Seagulls eventually found their breakthrough when Maxim De Cuyper’s corner was met by Vuskovic, who headed past James Trafford at the back post.

Brighton pushed for a winner after the equaliser, but Leeds held firm to secure a point and extend their unbeaten start to the Premier League season.

Leeds have now taken five points from their opening three matches, having previously beaten Nottingham Forest and drawn with Brentford.

For Brighton, the draw provides another entertaining but frustrating result after their 4-0 victory over Aston Villa and 4-3 defeat to Chelsea in their opening two matches.

Leeds sit 8th on five points, while Brighton are 9th with four points following the afternoon's results.

The result will nevertheless encourage Leeds after they produced another disciplined performance away from home, while Brighton can take heart from recovering after falling behind.

The draw leaves both sides with plenty of positives, although Leeds will feel they missed an opportunity to claim all three points after creating several of the game's clearest chances.

The Seagulls will play away at Coventry at 2 pm next Sunday who are without a point so far this season.

Leeds will host Newcastle, which will pose several problems following their strong start to the season.
