Bayern Munich announce Viessmann Generations Group as new shareholder

The German champions have confirmed a new investment agreement that will see Viessmann Generations Group acquire a stake of just under 6.7% in FC Bayern München AG, while the club’s member-owned association retains majority control.
Bayern Munich have announced that Viessmann Generations Group is set to become a shareholder in FC Bayern München AG, marking a significant development in the club’s long-term ownership and investment strategy.
Under the agreement, the Munich-based, family-owned business will take a stake of just under 6.7% through a capital increase. The deal is subject to registration in the commercial register before taking effect.
FC Bayern München eV, the club’s member-owned association, will continue to hold 70% of the shares.
The four minority shareholders Viessmann Generations Group, adidas, Audi and Allianz will collectively own the remaining 30%, with each of the three existing external shareholders holding just under 7.8%.
A long-standing partnership moves into ownership
Viessmann and Bayern have maintained a commercial relationship since 2018, which has developed from a brand partnership into wider collaboration.
The new agreement takes that relationship a step further, bringing the family business into the club’s ownership structure.
Bayern say the investment will strengthen their equity base and support projects linked to sustainability, internationalisation and digital development.
Herbert Hainer, president of FC Bayern München eV and chairman of the supervisory board of FC Bayern München AG, said:
“This step strengthens the ownership structure of FC Bayern München AG.”
He added that the investment would give Bayern greater flexibility as the football industry continues to evolve.
Max Viessmann expected to join supervisory board
Max Viessmann, CEO of Viessmann Generations Group, is expected to join the supervisory board of FC Bayern München AG.
The board is set to expand from nine members to ten.
Viessmann is a fourth-generation family business with operations in more than 40 countries. Its involvement is intended to contribute both investment capital and international business expertise to Bayern’s long-term strategy.
Max Viessmann described the announcement as the beginning of “a partnership for generations”, underlining the company’s ambition to contribute to Bayern’s continued development while respecting the club’s identity and independence.
What the agreement means for Bayern Munich
The deal provides Bayern with additional financial and strategic backing without relinquishing control of the football company to outside investors.
The club’s eV association will retain a decisive 70% shareholding, while its existing minority investors remain involved alongside the incoming Viessmann group.
The transaction follows earlier media reports of a potential investment in Bayern.
However, the club’s announcement does not disclose the value of the deal, and any previously reported figure should not be treated as confirmed.

For Bayern, the agreement represents another step in balancing international commercial growth with an ownership model that keeps the club’s members at the centre of its structure.
