Arsenal 2-1 Chelsea; Odegaard seals comeback win over Blues

Arsenal came from behind to beat Chelsea 2-1 at Emirates Stadium, with Martin Odegaard completing the turnaround after Morgan Rogers' early opener.

Kai Havertz restored parity before half-time, while Odegaard put the champions ahead five minutes after the restart.

Chelsea pushed for an equaliser late on, but David Raya produced a superb save to deny Estevao and secure Arsenal's third consecutive Premier League victory.

The visitors made the perfect start when Rogers scored after just 77 seconds, steering an excellent volley into the bottom-left corner after Arsenal failed to clear Joao Pedro's deep free-kick.

The goal continued Chelsea's remarkable run of fast starts, with the Blues becoming the first side since Newcastle United in December 2024 to score inside five minutes in three successive Premier League matches.

Arsenal thought they had immediately responded when Riccardo Calafiori swept home after Gabriel's effort came back off the post, but the goal was disallowed after Ezri Konsa was judged to have been offside in the build-up.

The hosts eventually found their equaliser in the 25th minute through Havertz, who cut inside from the right before firing a low effort towards the near post.

Emiliano Martinez got a hand to the strike but could not keep it out, with Havertz finding the net against his former club after Declan Rice supplied the assist.

Arsenal then completed the comeback just five minutes into the second half through Odegaard.

The move was brilliantly created by Havertz, who cleverly allowed Christos Tzolis' pass to run through to the Arsenal captain, leaving him with a clear sight of goal.

Odegaard made no mistake from close range, smashing the ball beyond Martinez to double his Premier League goal tally for the season in just three appearances.

Chelsea responded by searching for a second equaliser, but Arsenal's defence held firm as the visitors struggled to find a decisive opening.

Their best opportunity arrived in the 89th minute when Estevao cut inside from the right and curled an effort towards the top-left corner.

Raya, though, produced an outstanding save to tip the ball over the crossbar and preserve Arsenal's lead.

The result sees Chelsea suffer their first defeat of the season, while Alonso was beaten by fellow Spaniard Arteta in their first Premier League meeting.

Arteta's side also extend their unbeaten run to 10 straight Premier League games against Chelsea.

Arsenal maintain their perfect record and remain at the top of the Premier League alongside Manchester City, with the reigning champions securing another three points.

The Gunners will next face Sunderland, while Chelsea turn their attention to newly promoted Hull City, who are yet to lose or concede in the Premier League this season.

Although competitive, Chelsea still have plenty to improve on.
