Wolves shocked the Premier League today, defeating reigning champions Liverpool 2-1 with a dramatic 94th-minute winner from André, marking Wolves’ third win of the season.

Arne Slot’s side missed a golden opportunity to move into the top four and extend their lead over Chelsea to six points. Liverpool dominated possession with 65% and created 19 shots over the course of the evening, but Wolves managed their first shot of the game in the 80th minute and still took all three points.

In the first half, Liverpool controlled the majority of possession but struggled to carve out clear-cut chances that truly tested Wolves’ defence.

The Reds looked to manoeuvre around Wolves’ defensive block, with Virgil van Dijk producing a sensational pass from his own half to Mohamed Salah, who controlled it superbly. Salah brought the ball down before going to ground under a challenge from Krejci, though the contact appeared too minimal to warrant a penalty.

Liverpool fashioned a promising moment when Hugo Ekitike collected the ball deep inside his own half and surged forward with intent. Carrying it to the edge of the Wolves area, he slipped it into the path of Jeremie Frimpong, whose first-time strike lacked composure and sailed high into the stands.

Wolves produced 0.00 expected goals in the first half, underlining their clear game plan for the evening: to sit deep, stay compact and look to catch Arne Slot’s men on the counter-attack.

In the second half, Liverpool raised the intensity. There was a penalty appeal when Frimpong’s cross from the right struck Krejci’s arm, but the referee waved play on. VAR checked the incident and upheld the decision, leaving the travelling Kop frustrated with the outcome.

The Reds had a huge chance to break the deadlock. Salah whipped in a corner from the right that Ekitike glanced on at the near post, sending it towards the back stick. Curtis Jones looked set to nod it home from close range, but the ball instead clipped Cody Gakpo’s boot and crashed against the crossbar.

In the final 20 minutes, the game opened up and became end to end, and it was Wolves who took advantage.

Arokodare appeared to nudge Van Dijk in the back, but play continued, and he slipped the ball into the path of Gomes, who kept his composure from a tight angle to score past Alisson.

Moments later, Rio Ngumoha had a chance to restore parity for Liverpool. Cutting inside onto his right foot, he fired a shot through Tchatchoua’s legs, only for José Sá to make an incredible fingertip save, diving to his left and tipping it onto the post one of the finest stops of the season.

In the 83rd minute, Liverpool were gifted a way back into the game when a wayward pass from a Wolves defender fell to Salah.

The forward took full advantage, slotting the ball past the goalkeeper at the near post to net his first league goal in 122 days.

In the 94th minute, it was pure delirium at Molineux.

Alisson’s clearance was a poor one, falling straight to Tchatchoua, who headed it on to André with acres of space to drive towards the Liverpool box.

The Brazilian’s shot took a huge deflection off Gakpo, snatching a stoppage-time winner for Wolves.

It was a gut-wrenching defeat for Liverpool, who had plenty of opportunities to win the game tonight. Unfortunately for the Reds, it marked the seventh time this season they have conceded a decisive moment in stoppage time.

For Wolves, it marks back-to-back Premier League wins for the first time since April 2025.

They are a team determined to make the most of every remaining game until relegation is officially confirmed, and they are certainly not playing like a side destined for the Championship.
