Crystal Palace etched their name into the history books this season, lifting the club’s first major trophy with a stunning 1-0 victory over Manchester City in the FA Cup final. The triumph also secured European football for the first time, marking a milestone campaign for the South London side.

However, success comes with a price—heightened interest in your star assets. And even with the incentive of European football at Selhurst Park, it may not be enough to keep everyone at the club this summer.

Here’s a look at the current situation surrounding four of Crystal Palace’s most sought-after stars:

Jean-Philippe Mateta

Signed initially on loan in January 2021, Jean-Philippe Mateta struggled for consistency under Roy Hodgson and Patrick Vieira. But his fortunes changed drastically with the arrival of Oliver Glasner.

Through a mix of determination and hard work, Mateta has transformed into one of the Premier League’s most effective strikers. Since Glasner’s appointment, he’s registered 34 goal involvements in 59 appearances and has significantly improved his hold-up and link-up play.

His form has drawn interest from clubs including Manchester United. However, the Red Devils won’t feature in European competition next season—unlike Palace.

Ongoing contract talks between Mateta’s representatives and the club are progressing positively, with both parties confident that a deal will be reached.

Adam Wharton

Since his £22 million move from Blackburn Rovers, Adam Wharton has been a revelation in the Palace midfield.

Composed, intelligent, and incisive in possession, the 21-year-old has earned multiple England call-ups, with several top clubs showing strong interest. Reports suggest Palace won’t entertain offers below £100 million, as Wharton still has four years left on his current deal.

While Manchester City and Real Madrid are among the admirers, all signs point to Wharton remaining in South London for at least another season.

Marc Guehi

Since signing in 2021, Marc Guehi has established himself as one of the Premier League’s most consistent defenders and a regular for England.

With over 150 appearances for the club, he’s become a defensive mainstay. But with just one year left on his contract and no sign of an extension, Palace may be forced to sell rather than risk losing him on a free.

Tottenham and Newcastle have both expressed strong interest. Spurs had a £70 million bid rejected in January, and are undergoing a rebuild that Guehi could play a central role in. Newcastle’s long-standing interest suggests they will likely re-enter the race this summer.

Ebere Eze

FA Cup final match-winner Ebere Eze has enjoyed a standout season, contributing 15 goals and 11 assists in all competitions.

The 26-year-old signed a new three-and-a-half-year contract in November 2023, which includes a £68 million release clause that becomes active this summer. Palace will have no control if a club meets the clause, but Eze has publicly stated how happy he is at the club.

With European football secured, Eze may choose to test himself on the continental stage with Palace before considering a move elsewhere. Manchester City and Tottenham have monitored his progress, but whether they’ll make an official move remains to be seen.

Stronger Than Ever?

Crystal Palace have consistently proven they can hold onto their top talents. With a clear project under Oliver Glasner and the added pull of European competition, the club is in a stronger position than ever to resist summer raids.
