Villarreal welcome Paris Saint-Germain to the Estadio de la Cerámica on Tuesday night for a

Champions League clash.

While the Spanish side will be looking to better their results after a disappointing domestic

defeat, the reigning European champions travel with confidence and an impressive run of

results behind them.

It will also be the first competitive meeting between the two clubs.

Villarreal's Champions League campaign has been an eventful one so far.

Sitting 19th in the league phase table with three points from their opening three matches,

Pérez’s side have shown plenty of attacking quality, but defensive inconsistencies have proved costly.

Their campaign began with a narrow 3-2 defeat away to Borussia Dortmund before they

responded with a 3-1 victory over Napoli at the Estadio de la Cerámica.

After recovering from an early setback against Napoli, Villarreal produced an impressive

attacking display, with sharper movement and greater control helping them secure their first

European win of the season.

They followed that with another high scoring encounter at Anfield, pushing Liverpool all the way although ultimately ending in a 4-3 defeat.

The pattern is becoming clear, Villarreal have shown they can create chances and compete with some of Europe's strongest sides, but their vulnerability at the back has made it difficult to turn those performances into points.

Against PSG, they will need to maintain that attacking ambition while showing greater defensive discipline.

As back to back Champions League winners, PSG's impressive start to this season's

competition comes as little surprise.

Luis Enrique's side have shown no signs of slowing down, carrying the same confidence and

attacking intent that helped them secure successive European titles.

With three wins from their opening three matches, they currently sit top of the league phase

table with nine points.

Villarreal team news

Villarreal arrived with fresh team concerns after a 1-0 defeat to Espanyol at the weekend.

Gerard Moreno is a major doubt after limping off with a muscle injury inside the first 20 minutes of that domestic tie.

Ilias Akhomach and Nathan Saliba both missed the Espanyol game with muscular issues and are likely to be out for this fixture too.

Juan Foyth and Alassane Diatta were late omissions over the weekend due to physical

discomfort and remain doubts.

On the plus side, there is one boost for the hosts as Pape Gueye is available again after serving a domestic suspension.

Overall, it is a stretched squad heading into a daunting night against the European champions.

PSG team news

PSG are dealing with severe injury concerns of their own ahead of the trip to Spain.

Luis Enrique's squad has been heavily depleted by an intense fixture list, and the absences now run through every department.

Most notably, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is out for the rest of the season after rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee during the 4-2 Champions League win over Barcelona on 20 October.

Both Ousmane Dembélé and Marquinhos also picked up costly thigh injuries in that exact same match, stripping PSG of three vital starting names in one fell swoop.

In defensive rotation news, Nuno Mendes has a lingering muscle issue and missed the

weekend's 5-1 domestic victory over Le Havre to undergo targeted treatment.

Youngster Alessandro Longoni is also ruled out with a muscle injury.
