Tottenham vs Aston Villa: Will Spurs finally score this season

Tottenham Hotspur welcome Aston Villa on Saturday, still looking to find their first win of the season.
Roberto De Zerbi’s side is yet to keep a clean sheet this season, conceding five goals in four
matches.
Their last meeting was at Anfield on Tuesday, when they bowed out of the
Carabao Cup after a 3-1 defeat to Liverpool.
De Zerbi has found a way to steady the backline, securing consecutive clean sheets in the
Premier League against Nottingham Forest and Everton.
Tottenham have set a dire club record of failing to score a single club goal in their opening four Premier League matches.
Despite investing in high-profile attacking talent over the summer, such as Dominic Solanke,
Omar Marmoush and Sávio, the front line has lacked cohesion and instinct.
Spurs currently sit 17th on the table, just shy of the relegation zone.
For Villa’s men, it will be their second fixture of the week, after advancing to the fourth stage
of the Carabao Cup, having defeated Coventry City 3-1 on Wednesday evening.
Villa are still searching for their first three points after a narrow defeat against Nottingham
Forest in their last Premier League game.
Unai Emery said, “Two goals scored by Tammy Abraham have given us confidence.” The
Villa boss also highlighted the tactical progress made during the victory, pointing to the
contributions of Abraham, Ibrahim Mbaye and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
They have had a rocky start to the 2026/2027 season, drawing one game and losing the
remaining three, struggling to find the momentum that drove them towards the top five last
season.
Tottenham have historically won more games against Aston Villa (80 wins) than against any
club in their entire history.
The two sides rarely settle for a draw, with none of their last 22 league meetings ending in an even score line.
The most recent league meeting ended in Aston Villa 1-2 Tottenham in May 2026.
While Tottenham lead the historical record, their last ten meetings have leaned heavily
towards Villa, with Villa winning seven games.
Dominic Solanke is fully fit and ready to play for Spurs.
He holds a strong personal record against Villa, scoring in three of his last four games against them. Considering Tottenham’s goal drought this season, a healthy Solanke is De Zerbi’s best bet to break the curse.
Entering this high-stakes weekend fixture, both managers are navigating a notable selection
dilemma that could pivot the tactical flow of the match.
Tottenham will have Pedro Porro available, returning recovered from a minor muscular issue that ruled him out of his last two fixtures.
Spurs will remain without Dejan Kulusevski, Xavi Simons and Mykhailo Mudryk, all confirmed as long-term absentees.
Villa will be without Amandou Onana, who is out on a hamstring injury, with Pau Torres also
out on hamstring problems.
Ian Maatsen is also out after sustaining an ankle injury against Nottingham Forest.
Predicted line-up:
Spurs: (4-2-3-1): Kinsky; Gray, van Hecke, van de Ven, Robertson; Bentancur, Tonali; Savio,
Fernandes, Marmoush; Solanke.
Villa: (4-2-3-1): Suzuki; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelöf, Torres, Maatsen; Kamara, Barkley; McGinn,
Buendía, Hemmings; Jackson.
