Palace complete remarkable comeback in chaotic 3–2 London derby win over Fulham

There are wins, there are wins, and then there are afternoons like this.

Crystal Palace came from behind twice to beat Fulham 3–2 at Craven Cottage in an utterly bonkers London derby, producing the kind of comeback that will have Palace fans talking long after the final whistle.

It was entertaining, chaotic and dramatic from start to finish, with the lead changing hands, momentum swinging wildly and neither side looking prepared to settle for anything less than victory.

Most importantly, though, Palace found a way to win.

The Eagles were given an early reminder that this was never going to be a straightforward afternoon when Josh King opened the scoring in the 11th minute.

Fulham had started brightly and were quick to put Palace under pressure, forcing the visitors to work hard whenever they tried to build from the back.

Palace did have their moments, including a Daichi Kamada effort that was ruled out following a VAR review, but Fulham continued to carry a threat going forward.

The hosts looked capable of causing problems whenever they attacked, and for a spell it appeared Palace would have to fight their way back into the contest.

Then came the response, and it came from a rather unexpected source.

Tyrick Mitchell, a left-back and Palace academy graduate, stepped up with a finish that would have been impressive from any attacker. With 35 minutes on the clock, Mitchell fired home from a tight angle to level the game and give the Eagles the lift they desperately needed.

At that point, Palace had a foothold again, but Fulham refused to let them enjoy it for long.

Just before half-time, César Palacios restored the hosts' advantage, sending Fulham into the break 2–1 ahead and leaving Palace with another mountain to climb.

The visitors had shown enough attacking intent to suggest they could get back into the game, but they needed to find another level after the interval.

Whatever was said inside that Palace dressing room clearly did the trick.

Just nine minutes into the second half, Mitchell was at it again.

The full-back struck in the 54th minute to make it 2–2, completing a remarkable brace and dragging Palace level for the second time.

Suddenly, the momentum had shifted decisively towards the visitors, with Fulham looking increasingly vulnerable as Palace pushed forward in search of a winner.

Two goals from a defender in a London derby is remarkable enough, but Mitchell's contribution was only part of the story.

Palace had shown the resilience to recover from conceding twice, and now they had the belief that a third goal was there for the taking.

With 13 minutes remaining, it arrived.

Ben Chilwell, making his Palace debut, became the unlikely hero. After a frantic scramble inside the Fulham penalty area, the ball broke loose in front of goal, and Chilwell kept his composure amid the chaos to smash home in the 77th minute.

From 2–1 down at half-time to 3–2 winners, Palace had completed a remarkable turnaround.

There was still work to do during the closing stages, with Fulham inevitably throwing bodies forward in search of an equaliser, but Palace held firm.

Having twice come from behind, the visitors showed the composure to see out the final minutes and secure a victory that looked unlikely when they trailed at the break.

It was a remarkable afternoon at Craven Cottage, with Palace twice recovering from going behind before Chilwell's late strike completed the comeback.

Mitchell's brace was the standout individual contribution, while Chilwell marked his Palace debut with the goal that ultimately decided an extraordinary London derby.
