Newcastle return to St James’ Park on Sunday for Gameweek 6 of the 2025/26 Premier League campaign in a blockbuster clash against Arsenal. The Gunners make the trip north as they seek to bounce back from their previous league away fixture, a defeat to Liverpool. Newcastle, however, look to secure their second win at home so far this season.

Both teams secured victory in Round 3 of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday and seek a strong finish to end the week.

Arsenal head into the fixture in second place, with 3 wins from 5 matches. Goals haven’t come easily for the Gunners away from home this season, however, as they have only managed 1 goal in 2 games when not playing at the Emirates Stadium. Alongside this, having not scored at St James’ Park since May 2023, will Arsenal find a way through Eddie Howe’s back line this weekend?

Newcastle will be looking for their second win of the season. The return of Anthony Gordon after his suspension will bolster their attack an attack that has lacked goals, having scored just three in six in the Premier League. Gordon’s creativity and finishing could prove key against Arsenal.

Fabian Schär, Yoane Wissa, and Jacob Ramsey are all expected to miss out on the match, whilst new signing Nick Woltemade may continue to lead the line after scoring in the club’s most recent home match in the league, a 1-0 victory against Wolves.

For Arsenal, Mikel Arteta has hinted at Ødegaard’s potential return: “Martin will be training with us the next two days, so hopefully he’ll be available for the game,” the Arsenal boss stated on Friday.

He further added that the match will be “really intense,” as he admitted that “you have to dominate when you play against them.”

However, the Magpies’ boss Eddie Howe has told his players to bring “aggression” to the fixture. “I think we play better when there is that edge in our game,” he added.

Newcastle beat Arsenal on three separate occasions last season and have won at home against the Gunners in their previous three meetings there. How will Arsenal respond to these poor performances? Will Newcastle have the psychological edge?
