Newcastle United vs AFC Bournemouth: Will the Magpies maintain their strong start to the season?

St James’ Park will host this weekend's 12:30 kick-off against AFC Bournemouth.

The Magpies will be seeking to continue their impressive start to the season following a resilient  2-2- draw at home against Liverpool and a strong performance in their 2-0 win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The Cherries, on the other hand, are looking for their first win of the season following a 2-1 opening-day defeat away at the Etihad and last weekend's 1-1 draw at home against Everton.

When asked about Newcastle’s playstyle under new manager, Marco Rose said: “There is a clear identity to play quite intensity but again it’s Premier League. Every Premier League team tries to play intense. You’re right, they have different patterns in pressing. It depends on what the opponent is doing.”  

On facing Bournemouth, Matthias Jaissle said: "It will be the same idea of how we want to play football this is independent of the opponent, we have a clear way, clear identity and I hope atmosphere will be the same”

The Magpies have players missing in defence, midfield and attack with Dan Burn,Joelinton and William Osula all missing via injury.

Right-back and England International Tino Livramento is set to miss out however he has returned to training following surgery on a calf injury this week.

Matias Fernandez-Pardo arrived from  Lille in the transfer window, but the 21-year-old Belgian  forward is likely to feature from  the bench.

Summer signing Nico Gonzalez starred in last week's 2-0 away victory at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and set to continue in a midfield two alongside Lewis Miley.

Bournemouth’s window was a success as their aim was to retain their star talent.

That means Alex Scott, who scored the opener against Everton, will remain the main man in midfield to try and serve a frontline of Evanilson up top with Marcus Tavernier, Justin Kluivert and Rayan in behind.

The Cherries also have players missing from all over the team including key prospect Junior Kroupi.

Other unavailable players include Julian Araujo, Amine Adli and Veljko Milosavljevic through injury.

Newcastle are winless in their last eight meetings against Bournemouth, drawing five of those.
