Manchester United Can’t Banter Anymore — It’s Time to Rebuild Like Arsenal, City and Liverpool Did

“And Arsenal are the laughing stocks?” Not anymore.
Let’s cut the noise — Manchester United are in freefall, and the numbers aren’t just bad — they’re historic.
16th in the Premier League
18 defeats
10 wins in 37 matches
No back-to-back wins all season
Just 9 points picked up since December
39 total points
Lost four times to Spurs in one season
No European football next season
This is no longer a “bad run” or a “rebuilding year” — this is a club that’s lost its identity, direction, and fear factor.
And yet, even now, some United fans still aim jabs at clubs like Arsenal. But let’s be real — the banter era is over. You’re the punchline now.

When Amorim took the job in November 2024, United were 13th. He was brought in as a “modern mind” — someone who could finally implement a tactical philosophy after the stop-start nature of previous appointments.
Now, six months later, United have dropped three places in the table and find themselves in 16th, closer to relegation than relevance.
Still, this is not the time to jump ship.
“If the board and the fans believe I’m not the man to take this club forward, I will leave — no money, no compensation. I’m not here to be a burden,” Amorim said after United’s Europa League final defeat to Spurs. “But if I stay, I stay to rebuild. To fight. I believe in this process.”
That’s the tone of someone who understands the scale of the challenge. And that’s exactly the mindset United need to back — not bin.

Let’s talk about it. Arteta finished 8th twice. Arsenal fans wanted him gone. But the club stuck to the project. Gave him time. Empowered him to rip out the old and bring in the new.
Now? They’re fighting for the title every season, competing with a clear identity and youth-driven core.
Liverpool? Klopp didn’t win a trophy in his first two seasons. He needed time to build that pressing machine, to bring in players who fit his vision.
Manchester City? Pep went trophyless in Year One and was questioned for trying to change too much too fast.
What did these clubs do that United haven’t?
They stopped the panic button culture.
They gave managers time — and power.
And they built footballing systems, not just teams.

The Ferguson days are gone. This isn’t 2008. You don’t walk into any stadium and scare teams by the badge. You don’t win games on legacy.
United need to start again — properly.
No more patchwork signings.
No more panic hires.
No more tearing up projects after 6 months.
Stick with Amorim. Back the manager. Build something.
Because right now, United aren’t close to City. Or Arsenal. Or even Spurs.
They’re 16th — and that should humble everyone.

This summer will be huge. The recruitment has to be surgical, not superstar-driven. A proper goalkeeper. A commanding centre-back. A real midfield identity. A proper striker. And players who fit Amorim’s system, not just names that sell shirts.
This club has to learn how to rebuild — not reload.
Give him time. Give him the tools. And maybe in two or three seasons, United won’t be the punchline anymore.
But until then — the banter badge is yours.
Hold it.
Own it.
Learn from it.
