Manchester City secured a solid 2–0 victory over Everton at the Etihad Stadium, thanks to a quick-fire brace from Erling Haaland. In a tightly contested match with chances for both sides, the Norwegian striker made the difference, scoring twice within five minutes to seal the win and take the spotlight once again.

Everton started the brighter of the two sides, carving out the better chances in the first half. Fresh off their dramatic last-minute win over Crystal Palace before the international break, the visitors carried that momentum into the game, with Iliman Ndiaye proving a constant threat to the City backline.

The Senegalese forward intercepted a poor pass from Nathan Aké but saw his low cross evade Beto at the far post. Moments later, Ndiaye’s mazy run and powerful strike were denied only by a superb fingertip save from Gianluigi Donnarumma.

However, Everton’s failure to capitalise on their opportunities would prove costly. City’s full-backs, O’Reilly and Matheus Nunes, both fired narrowly wide, but the hosts only truly clicked into gear in the second half.

Once they did, Pep Guardiola’s side looked every bit the champions, extending their unbeaten run to eight matches across all competitions and moving top of the Premier League on goal difference.

Erling Haaland once again made the difference, scoring twice in five minutes to secure a 2–0 win. The Norwegian has now found the net in 11 consecutive games for club and country, taking his tally to an incredible 23 goals in just 13 appearances this season.

Pep Guardiola will also be pleased to see his squad depth improving, with Omar Marmoush, Rayan Cherki, and Mateo Kovačić all returning from injury to feature in the second half.

Everton’s poor record against City continued they have now failed to beat Guardiola’s side in their last 17 Premier League meetings.

Manchester City now turn their attention to the Champions League, travelling to Villarreal on Tuesday (20:00 BST), while Everton host Tottenham in the Premier League on 26 October (16:30 BST).
