Can Liverpool Overcome the ‘Irons’ Interrogation to Keep European Hopes Alive or Will the Hammers Nail Their Victory to Premier League Survival?
From relegation-threatened Nottingham Forest to relegation-placed West Ham United, Liverpool’s next mission in their pursuit of Champions League football is to host Nuno Espírito Santo’s Irons at Anfield.
Arne Slot’s side arrive buoyed by their stoppage-time victory at the City Ground, three valuable points that keep the reigning champions firmly in the conversation for a top-four finish as the final ten games of the Premier League season approach.
For West Ham United, the trip to Anfield requires no explanation. A win or even a point could prove decisive in their fight for Premier League survival. Only two points separate the Hammers from safety, and relegation to the Championship would mark a nightmare scenario not experienced in nearly fifteen years.
Encouragingly for the East London outfit, they are enjoying a brief positive spell, with just one defeat in their last five league matches. However, history is not on their side. West Ham have won just once at Anfield in their last 52 visits a 3-0 victory under Slaven Bilić in August 2015.
Liverpool will again be without Florian Wirtz, who continues to recover from a back issue sustained in training ahead of their win against Nottingham Forest.
Jeremie Frimpong is available for selection, offering a significant boost after missing five matches with a muscle injury suffered against Qarabag. Wataru Endo remains sidelined with an ankle injury but is hopeful of returning before the season’s conclusion.
Connor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni are ruled out for the remainder of the campaign due to serious knee injuries. Alexander Isak also remains unavailable as he recovers from a broken leg sustained in December. Although both club and international managers have suggested progress in his rehabilitation, the Swedish striker will not feature this weekend.
Freddie Potts remains suspended following his red card in the FA Cup fourth-round victory against Burton United.
New signing Pablo Felipe is recovering from a calf injury and remains unavailable, while Lukasz Fabiański is sidelined with a back issue. Alphonse Areola is expected to start in goal.
West Ham will look to capitalise on any defensive fragility and attempt to frustrate Liverpool on home soil. Nuno Espírito Santo will be seeking his first victory at Anfield since defeating Liverpool during their title-winning campaign last season.
Liverpool could climb into fourth place should results elsewhere go in their favour, particularly if Manchester United drop points and Chelsea falter.
For West Ham, the stakes are simpler but equally urgent: survival.
Anfield sets the stage for a clash of contrasting ambitions European qualification versus Premier League preservation.
