Liverpool round off the calendar year with a home meeting against Wolves at Anfield, looking to carry momentum into 2026 while deepening the woes of a visiting side still searching for their first Premier League victory.

Arne Slot’s Liverpool arrive on Merseyside in solid form. The Reds are unbeaten in their last six matches in all competitions, five of those coming in the league, alongside an impressive win at the San Siro against Inter. That run has steadied Liverpool after an inconsistent start to their title defence, and a recent victory over Tottenham ensured they spent Christmas Day outside the top four, a marker of gradual progress rather than expectation.

History strongly favours the hosts, particularly at Anfield during the festive period. Liverpool have won 25 of their last 31 league matches played at home between Boxing Day and New Year’s Eve, with Wolves responsible for the only defeat in that sequence back in 2010. The Reds are also one goal away from reaching 100 home league goals against Wolves, underlining their long-standing dominance in this fixture.

Wolves’ recent record against Liverpool offers little encouragement. They have lost 16 of the last 17 league meetings between the sides, and the broader picture this season is even more alarming. Rob Edwards’s team remain without a single Premier League win, drawing 15 and losing two, and arrive at Anfield having suffered 10 consecutive top-flight defeats. Wolves have scored fewer goals than any other side in the division with nine, while conceding a league-high 37 — statistics that reflect their precarious position at the foot of the table.

Team News

Liverpool will be without Mohamed Salah, who is leading Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations following a positive start to the tournament. Dominik Szoboszlai is suspended after picking up his fifth league booking against Tottenham. Isak is sidelined for around two months with an ankle injury, while Conor Bradley remains a doubt due to fitness concerns after a recent return from injury. Defensive options are thin, with Joe Gomez and Giovanni Leoni already ruled out, and Ibrahima Konaté one caution away from suspension.

Wolves’ problems are even more acute. Toti Gomes is ruled out for a prolonged period with a hamstring injury, while Yerson Mosquera returns from suspension. However, Edwards remains without Rodrigo Gomes, Jean-Ricner Bellegarde, Marshall Munetsi, Daniel Bentley and Leon Chiwome through injury. Tawanda Chirewa and Emanuel Agbadou are also absent, representing their national teams at AFCON.

With Anfield providing the backdrop and the year drawing to a close, Liverpool will view this as an opportunity to finish 2025 on a high and continue building belief under Slot. For Wolves, it represents another daunting test in a season that has offered little respite, as they face the defending champions still searching for a first league win.
