Liverpool 2-2 Nottingham Forest: Reds Fight Back Twice in Anfield Thriller

Liverpool and Nottingham Forest share the points here at Anfield in a cracker of a game which ended 2–2.

Not the greatest start for Andoni Iraola with his new side, as he’s still yet to record a win, but for him, at least he hasn’t lost a game.

And it’s the same for Glasner with his new side yet to register a win, but this is a massive point for his side at Anfield, and he continues to be an issue for Liverpool.

Forest started off much the better side in the first half, as they were creating chances and looked by far the team more likely to take the lead.

And they did, with a simple goal from Ndoye, who only scored one goal last season. It was a simple long ball up the pitch from Sels which caused confusion in the Liverpool defence, but eventually, Jesus laid off Ndoye, who finished very well into that bottom-right corner from the left side of the box.

Liverpool thought they got an equaliser through Wirtz before the first half ended, but it was ruled out as Frimpong had strayed offside in the build-up to the goal.

Into the second half, no subs were made by Iraola, but his side came out looking miles better than in the first half.

Substitutes were being readied to come on before Gakpo produced a brilliant moment to shrug off his man and play in a lovely low-driven cross for Isak, who simply could not miss.

That Liverpool goal looked like it would ignite more momentum in their side, but minutes later, Forest won a penalty from Delap doing some incredibly quick thinking, as he took a quick throw to play in Neco Williams, who was then taken out by Alisson.

And Forest’s main man, Gibbs-White, stepped up to confidently sweep away his penalty. He now has 13 league goals in 2026 more than anyone else in the league, including Haaland!

This meant it was back to square one for Liverpool, as they now had 20 minutes for a response, and they found some inspiration in the 83rd minute thanks to Wirtz, who fed in new boy Muñoz to finish very well off the crossbar.

Liverpool carried on pushing afterwards but just couldn’t find the winner, and ultimately, a draw was a fair result.

There were glimpses of Liverpool’s first game against Newcastle in this one, as they also went behind twice in that game and had to fight back.

Liverpool now must win their next game, which they should do given that it’s Ipswich at Anfield, and it will be very interesting to see if the new big signing Barcola is featured in the squad.

As for Glasner, he will be up against Spurs at the City Ground, which could be a very difficult game.

Forest fans will definitely be the happier set, as a point at Anfield is never easy.

However, Liverpool fans will still feel alright, as Isak and another new boy got on the scoresheet today. But you feel like there’s still a lack of creativity in the middle of the pitch which needs to be sorted out fast if this side wants to compete for the big trophies.
