A rain-soaked day ended in a goalless draw with 36,727 attendance at Elland Road Stadium in Leeds. It’s Newcastle’s 2nd goalless draw this season, the previous one was vs Aston Villa.

Both teams were looking forvall 3 points this game. Leeds wanted to bounce back strongly after their 5-0 humiliation against Arsenal, while Newcastle were looking for their first win this season.

Before the kick-off, the whole stadium joined together for a moment of applause, remembering the members of the Leeds United family who passed away in the last 12 months.

Leeds United went ahead with a rather balanced combination of 4-3-3 while Newcastle took things slow with a defensive tactic of 5-3-2. Initially, both sides created chances but couldn’t succeed. Italian forward Willy Gnonto raced through Newcastle’s defence but couldn’t score a goal.

During the second half with 20 minutes to go, Newcastle’s substitute player Lewis Hall tried his luck with a long-range shot but was just off target. In response, Calvert also tried his luck from 30 yards away but couldn’t convert

Even though it was a goalless affair, in terms of ball possession Newcastle beat Leeds United with 57% ball control, 588 passes with 84% accuracy and 2 shots on target. The hosts in comparison had 43% ball possession, 411 passes with 79% accuracy and only 1 shot on target, which sums up the entire game.
