Fenerbahce 3-2 Liverpool: Iraola’s side suffer disappointing defeat in Turkey as Greenwood scores

Another lacklustre performance from the reds but what a win that is for Fenerbahce and their new coach who Liverpool fans are very familiar with - Dirk Kuyt!
Liverpool absolutely threw the game away after being ahead twice in this match.
Liverpool from a stats perspective were the better side with 67% possession and 22 shots but only six materialising on target.
The Turkish side however with less shots on target with 17 , performed better with an xG of 1.70.
And that is surprising to say as Fenerbahce started off the game very sloppy indeed.
This is where Liverpool should have really taken the game and they did for a split moment.
That was through 19 year old Trey Nyoni where the ball was set up for a volley and he converted it via a deflection.
He becomes Liverpool's second youngest ever scorer in this competition after Trent Alexander Arnold.
However, Fenerbahce came right back at them!
Four minutes later, Szoboszlai gave away a needless freekick in a threatening position.
Mason Greenwood stood over it and put it in the back of the net which was also via a deflection - this one being from Jacquet who should’ve done a lot better in that Liverpool wall.
After the two opening goals, there was no real chance from either side and Barocla was noticeably quiet but this may have been as he was playing in the No.9 role.
The second half started and Liverpool as expected were dominating possession and were threatening the Fernerbache defence.
Their current attack couldn’t break them down so Iraola looked to the bench for answers.
Instantly, two of the super subs - Gakpo and Isak linked to put the reds back ahead with an Isak header but once again, they could not hold on to the lead.
Minutes Later, Brown equalised for the hosts after a defensive mixup which saw Alison in no man’s land.
And again, soon after a loopy cross into the box caused issues for the Liverpool defence as Muriqi out muscled three Liverpool players to head the ball beyond Alison.
An absolutely terrible performance and result for Iraola, considering Fenerbahce lost 6-0 last time out to Villa and were 30th in the Champions League table.
A brilliant result for the Liverpool legend Dirk Kuyt but not the response at all that those Liverpool fans wanted after their loss to Arsenal in the league.
Following Liverpool’s loss to Man City, they went on a five game win streak and looked to be improving but now it suddenly looks like it’s all unraveling quickly.
