Brentford FC host Everton FC at the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday afternoon in a fixture that could prove pivotal in the race for European football.
Level on 46 points in the Premier League, both sides sit just three points adrift of a potential Champions League place, with Brentford narrowly ahead on goal difference in seventh. With so little separating them, this meeting carries the feel of a high-stakes six-pointer as the season enters its decisive phase.
Brentford come into the match in relatively steady form, having lost just once in their last eight league outings. However, their momentum has been slowed by an inability to turn draws into victories.
Three consecutive stalemates have left them searching for a cutting edge, particularly in attack, where they have failed to score in three of their last five matches.
Much of the responsibility once again falls on Igor Thiago, who has been one of the standout performers in the league this season. The Brazilian striker has 19 goals and needs just one more to equal Brentford’s Premier League record for a single campaign, currently held by Ivan Toney and Bryan Mbeumo.
Thiago also has fond memories of this fixture, having scored a hat-trick in Brentford’s 4–2 win over Everton earlier in the season.
Everton, meanwhile, arrive in west London in confident mood after winning three of their last four matches, including impressive victories over Newcastle United, Burnley and Chelsea.
Under the guidance of David Moyes, the Toffees have shown significant improvement, particularly away from home, where they have accumulated 41 points since his return in January 2025 a record bettered only by Arsenal.
Despite their strong form, Everton have had to manage without a consistently prolific striker. Beto showed his quality with two goals against Chelsea, while Iliman Ndiaye has added creativity, though their combined output still falls short of Thiago’s individual tally.
A key factor in Everton’s success this season has been the form of Jordan Pickford, who continues to produce match-defining saves.
Statistically, he has prevented more goals than any other Premier League goalkeeper in recent seasons based on expected goals on target, underlining his importance to Moyes’ side.
With Brentford likely to apply sustained attacking pressure, Pickford’s performance could once again prove decisive.
Team News
Everton will hope Ndiaye is fit after a recent injury concern, while Jarrad Branthwaite is pushing for a return to the starting line-up. Jack Grealish remains unavailable.
Brentford, meanwhile, have no major new concerns but will be looking for a significant improvement in their attacking efficiency if they are to keep pace in the race for Europe.
With both sides firmly in contention for European qualification, the importance of this match cannot be overstated.
A win for either team would not only provide a crucial advantage in the standings but also build momentum heading into the final stretch of the season.
Brentford will look to make home advantage count and rediscover their scoring touch, while Everton aim to extend their impressive away form and continue their upward trajectory.
