Manchester City’s hopes of retaining the Premier League title officially came to an end after a dramatic 1-1 draw away at AFC Bournemouth, confirming Arsenal F.C. as champions with one game remaining.

Despite a late equaliser from Erling Haaland, City could not find the winner they desperately needed at the Vitality Stadium, ending their title defence in disappointing fashion after a difficult and inconsistent campaign.

The hosts were excellent throughout much of the evening and deservedly took the lead shortly before half-time through Junior Kroupi.

After a clever cutback from Adrien Truffert, Kroupi curled a superb effort into the top corner to send the home crowd into celebration.

City struggled to control the match for long periods and were fortunate Bournemouth failed to extend their advantage.

Evanilson, Rayan Cherki, and substitute David Brooks all came close as Bournemouth continued to threaten on the counterattack.

Pep Guardiola’s side eventually found a breakthrough deep into stoppage time.

Haaland smashed an effort against the post before reacting quickest to convert the rebound, setting up a tense finish. However, there was no late winner this time, and the final whistle confirmed Arsenal’s first Premier League title in 22 years.

After the match, Haaland admitted the season had fallen below expectations and called on everyone connected with the club to use the disappointment as motivation going forward.

“We should be angry, we should feel a fire inside our belly because it’s not good enough,” Haaland said. “It’s gone two years now, it feels like forever. We’re going to do everything we can next season to win the league.”

The striker also praised the travelling City supporters and acknowledged the demands of a hectic schedule following the club’s recent FA Cup success.

For Bournemouth, the result capped off a memorable evening, as the point secured European qualification and highlighted another impressive performance against one of the league’s biggest sides.
