Arsenal have the opportunity to move eight points clear at the top of the Premier League following Manchester City’s draw against Brighton.

Liverpool arrive in north London on a nine-game unbeaten run in all competitions, but underlying concerns remain. The Reds are enduring their most difficult spell in over seven decades, having suffered nine defeats in their last 12 matches across competitions this season. Despite that downturn, history suggests Arsenal will face a stern test no side has beaten the Gunners more times in the Premier League than Liverpool.

Arne Slot has openly acknowledged his side’s recent struggles in the final third, admitting: “We are struggling to create a lot of chances.” Those issues have been compounded by injuries and absences. Hugo Ekitiké is sidelined with a hamstring problem, Alexander Isak remains unavailable due to a broken leg, while Mohamed Salah is away on international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Arsenal, by contrast, have received a timely boost on the fitness front. Mikel Arteta confirmed Kai Havertz could return after rejoining training this week: “He trained again with us, so hopefully we will have him available.” Riccardo Calafiori and Christian Mosquera remain unavailable, but Arteta will be encouraged by the growing stability within his squad.

One player who could once again prove decisive is Bukayo Saka. The winger has scored in each of his last three Premier League home appearances against Liverpool and continues to deliver in big moments. His form, movement and confidence will pose a constant threat to a Liverpool defence that has looked vulnerable in recent weeks.

Arsenal’s home record this season underlines their confidence heading into the clash. The Gunners have won seven consecutive Premier League matches at the Emirates and remain unbeaten at home in all competitions, reinforcing its status as one of the league’s most formidable venues.

Liverpool will still carry danger and motivation, particularly with an opportunity to disrupt Arsenal’s momentum and reassert themselves against the league leaders. However, with revenge for an earlier defeat this season on their minds and a chance to extend their advantage at the summit, Arteta’s side will believe this is another moment to make a statement in what promises to be a high-intensity and defining encounter.
