Max Dowman stole the headlines as he became the youngest Premier League goalscorer in Arsenal history, helping the Gunners to a 2–0 win over Everton. The victory moves Arsenal 10 points clear at the top as their title charge gathers momentum.

For much of the evening, it looked as though Everton were going to complete a frustrating night for Arsenal, but Mikel Arteta’s men struck late to secure a 2–0 victory.

Arsenal started the game brightly, with Riccardo Calafiori going close after an ambitious volley. Martin Zubimendi showed great balance to juggle the ball inside the box, and it fell naturally to the Italian, whose effort flew just off target.

Everton began to assert themselves, with Iliman Ndiaye creating a threatening moment by sending a teasing ball into the box. David Raya managed to deflect it toward Dwight McNeil, but Calafiori made an excellent block to snuff out the opportunity.

The danger continued moments later as McNeil regained the ball and unleashed a long-range effort that struck the crossbar.

By half-time, Everton had created the higher expected goals tally, registering 0.83 compared to Arsenal’s 0.5, highlighting the threat they posed during the opening 45 minutes.

In the second half, Eberechi Eze came agonisingly close to breaking the deadlock. The ball fell to him on the right edge of the box and he unleashed a curling effort aimed at the far post that beat Jordan Pickford at full stretch, only to miss the target by inches.

Mikel Arteta took a gamble by introducing teenager Max Dowman in the 74th minute, and it proved to be a masterstroke.

Just one minute before stoppage time, Dowman delivered a beautifully whipped ball to the back post. Pickford cleared it, but the ball rolled across an unguarded goal for Viktor Gyökeres to tap in comfortably.

Arsenal finally had their breakthrough and took the lead 1–0, as chaos unfolded in Everton’s defence.

In the 96th minute, Everton had one final opportunity from a corner, with Pickford joining the attack.

James Garner’s corner was cleared, leaving Pickford stranded in Arsenal’s half. Dowman then raced the length of the pitch and slotted the ball into the empty net, sealing a 2–0 victory for the Gunners.

The goal ensured Dowman became the youngest goalscorer in Arsenal’s Premier League history.

Arsenal have now become the first team this Premier League season to score 11 goals from substitutes, underlining the depth and impact of Arteta’s squad.

Following the dramatic finish, Arsenal move 10 points clear at the top of the Premier League table, as Manchester City prepare to travel to the London Stadium.

For Everton, the defeat leaves them eighth in the table, just one point behind Brentford, who face Wolves on Monday night.
