Mikel Arteta faced the media ahead of Arsenal’s Premier League clash with Fulham, following a positive international break that saw no new injuries and several key players in strong form for their national teams. Arsenal enter the weekend sitting top of the Premier League, having lost only one of their opening ten games in all competitions.
Fitness Updates
Mikel Arteta confirmed that captain Martin Ødegaard will remain sidelined for a few more weeks due to a knee injury.
“It will be weeks. There’s no definite date for his return, but he’s evolving well. It’s been very unlucky for him this season with the injuries he’s had. We’ll have to see how the knee heals and how he progresses in the next stages of his rehab. It’s too early to give a firm answer.”
The manager also revealed some positive news on the injury front:
“Hincapié is back in training and could be available. He’s a player who will help us a lot. Ben White and Zubimendi are having their workload managed, so they weren’t training, but Zubimendi just needed an extra day. He will be available for selection.”
Kai Havertz is nearing the final stages of his recovery from a knee problem, though Arteta urged patience:
“There’s still a lot to do in his rehab. He’s pushing really hard — that’s Kai, and that’s why we love him. But we need to protect him and make sure that when he comes back, it’s for the long term.”
Arteta also gave an update on Noni Madueke:
“He’s getting closer as well. He’ll start running very soon, and we’ll see how that goes.”
On Facing Fulham
Asked about Fulham being somewhat of a bogey team for Arsenal, Arteta said:
“It’s an opportunity. We know it’s a really tough place to go. They’re a well-coached team, and we’ll need to be at our best.”
On Being the 10th Longest-Serving Premier League Manager
When asked about his longevity in charge, Arteta reflected humbly:
“I feel very privileged and grateful. It’s always about focusing on the present, on the day-to-day work.”
