Tottenham Hotspur delivered a composed and controlled European performance to beat Eintracht Frankfurt 2–0 in Germany, securing their place in the Champions League round of 16 and ending a long-standing away-day drought in the competition.
Eintracht Frankfurt entered the night playing largely for pride. Already mathematically eliminated from the play-off places, the hosts were keen to restore credibility on a Champions League stage that still demands respect. Tottenham, by contrast, arrived with clear purpose. A frustrating domestic draw against Burnley had stalled momentum, and with qualification within touching distance, this fixture required patience rather than panic.
From the opening exchanges, Spurs set the tone. The tempo was sharp, spacing intelligent, and Frankfurt were quickly forced deep into their own half. Tottenham thought they had taken an early lead when Xavi Simons reacted quickest after Kauã Santos spilled a routine effort, only for celebrations to be cut short as Destiny Udogie was penalised in the build-up.

Rather than disrupting Spurs, the disallowed goal acted as a warning shot. Tottenham tightened their grip, recycling possession calmly and forcing Frankfurt to defend wave after wave of pressure. The hosts showed moments of bravery when breaking forward, but Spurs dominated territory and control, probing relentlessly without sacrificing structure.
Wilson Odobert was a constant spark. Fearless in one-v-one situations, he glided past defenders with ease, linking play fluidly with Simons and Pape Sarr while drifting intelligently into pockets of space. Tottenham could have gone in ahead at the break after another Santos error presented Simons with a golden opportunity, but the final touch eluded them. Still, Spurs entered half-time firmly on top.
The second half resumed in similar fashion. Tottenham remained patient yet purposeful, determined to turn dominance into reward. The breakthrough eventually arrived from a well-worked set piece. Simons delivered a precise free-kick to the back post, where Cristian Romero headed the ball across goal for former Frankfurt striker Randal Kolo Muani to finish from close range.

It was another Champions League goal for the forward, whose European form continues to define his season.
Frankfurt refused to fold. The hosts pushed higher in search of an equaliser, with Aurelio Buta coming close as they tested Tottenham’s defensive focus. Spurs, however, never lost their composure. The structure held, the tempo remained controlled, and panic never crept in.
The decisive moment came in the 73rd minute. Dominic Solanke, whose season has been disrupted by injury, made an immediate impact off the bench.

Capitalising on a misplaced header from Mahmoud Dahoud, Solanke raced through on goal and finished with the calm assurance of a seasoned striker, slotting past Santos to seal both the match and Tottenham’s qualification.
At the heart of everything was Xavi Simons. Intelligent between the lines, mature in possession and decisive from set pieces, he orchestrated the evening with quiet authority.
This result meant more than just progression. It marked Tottenham’s first away win in the Champions League since 2022, finally breaking a psychological barrier and offering a timely reminder of their growing maturity on Europe’s biggest stage.
