Fifteen-time champions Real Madrid delivered a statement performance at the Santiago Bernabéu, dismantling Monaco 6–1 in the Champions League as Kylian Mbappé scored twice against his former club.
Los Blancos’ devastating attacking trio of Mbappé, Vinícius Júnior and teenage sensation Franco Mastantuono proved far too much for the visitors, as Álvaro Arbeloa claimed his first Champions League victory as Real Madrid head coach.
The opening exchanges were surprisingly open, with Monaco enjoying chances early on. Sébastien Pocognoli’s side, who had already drawn with Manchester City and beaten Paris Saint-Germain in this European campaign, showed ambition and intent.

However, Madrid struck first within five minutes. Good work from Mastantuono allowed Federico Valverde to slip Mbappé through, and the Frenchman calmly finished into the bottom-left corner to open the scoring.
Despite falling behind, Monaco responded positively. A golden opportunity fell to Ansu Fati after a low cross left him free inside the six-yard box, but the former Barcelona forward could only guide his effort narrowly wide.
That miss proved costly. Madrid doubled their advantage with a beautifully worked move, as Eduardo Camavinga showed quick feet before releasing Arda Güler, who played Vinícius Junior through on goal. The Brazilian unselfishly squared for Mbappé to tap home his second, making it 11 goals in this Champions League campaign and 32 in all competitions.
Monaco continued to threaten, rattling the crossbar through a curling effort from Jordan Teze, but Madrid remained firmly in control heading into the break.

The second half mirrored the first. Vinícius Junior registered his second assist of the night early on, teeing up Mastantuono, who calmly guided a right-footed finish into the corner to make it 3–0.
The 18-year-old became Real Madrid’s youngest-ever Champions League goalscorer, netting his first goal in the competition in just his fourth appearance.
Moments later, Madrid struck again. Vinícius delivered another dangerous low cross that Monaco defender Thilo Kehrer inadvertently turned into his own net, extending the lead to 4–0.
Vinícius then capped a sensational display by getting on the scoresheet himself, smashing a left-footed effort into the roof of the net for his first Champions League goal of the season.
Monaco briefly pulled one back after Dani Ceballos’ misplaced pass allowed Teze a simple finish, but any hope of a comeback was quickly extinguished. Jude Bellingham restored Madrid’s five-goal advantage after another Monaco error, rounding the goalkeeper before rolling the ball into an empty net.
From there, Real Madrid cruised to the final whistle, while Monaco collapsed after a promising first-half showing.

Madrid’s attacking quality once again masked lingering defensive vulnerabilities, but the brilliance of Mbappé and Vinícius ensured a comfortable night. Mbappé continues his extraordinary Champions League form, now boasting 11 goals in seven matches this season and 18 in 20 overall for Real Madrid, surpassing club legends Gareth Bale and Luís Figo in the competition’s all-time scoring charts for Los Blancos.
The result sees Real Madrid finish the night second in the Champions League standings on goal difference, just ahead of Bayern Munich, and confirm their place in the knockout stages.
Monaco drop to 21st on nine points and will likely need a result in their final group game at home to Juventus to secure a play-off spot.
