Paris Saint-Germain progressed to the Round of 16 in the Champions League, winning 5–4 on aggregate following a 2–2 draw against AS Monaco at the Parc des Princes.

PSG entered the second leg as favourites, having won the first leg 3–2 following a remarkable comeback after going two goals down inside 20 minutes. Les Parisiens had suffered only one defeat in their last seven matches in all competitions before Wednesday night’s clash. However, PSG were without their key man Ousmane Dembélé, who was sidelined due to an injury sustained in the first leg.

AS Monaco remained optimistic about overturning the deficit, trailing by just one goal on aggregate. They faced a daunting task, however, having not won at the Parc des Princes in over five years.

Les Rouges et Blancs nearly took the lead nine minutes in. Maghnes Akliouche beat his man in the box before squaring to Lamine Camara, who, with a clear sight of goal, blazed his effort over the bar.

The hosts came under further pressure just four minutes later when an exquisite cross from Brazilian full-back Vanderson found former PSG defender Thilo Kehrer. The German international’s header drifted inches wide of the far post, letting the defending champions off once again.

PSG’s first clear chance arrived after 30 minutes of sustained Monaco pressure. Philipp Köhn’s sloppy clearance fell to a PSG header that found Désiré Doué in the box, but the Frenchman struck an uncharacteristically poor effort.

Bradley Barcola came agonisingly close in the 40th minute. A neat exchange between João Neves and Barcola created space inside the box, but the winger’s effort crashed against the underside of the crossbar.

The deadlock was finally broken in the 45th minute by Akliouche. Caio Henrique collected a loose ball before finding Mamadou Coulibaly on the edge of the box, who unselfishly laid it off to Akliouche. The winger slotted calmly past Matvey Safonov to give Monaco the lead on the night.

An entertaining first half ended 1–0, leaving the tie level on aggregate heading into the second period.

PSG nearly responded early in the second half. Vitinha’s free-kick delivery was met by João Neves, whose diving header was denied by Köhn.

Momentum shifted dramatically in the 59th minute. Two yellow cards in four minutes saw Mamadou Coulibaly dismissed. The numerical disadvantage proved costly.

Within two minutes, PSG capitalised. A clever short corner routine found Doué, who created space before delivering across goal for captain Marquinhos to convert, restoring PSG’s aggregate advantage.

Six minutes later, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia extended the lead. The Georgian forward reacted quickest to a rebound after Köhn parried Achraf Hakimi’s long-range strike.

Köhn was called into action again in the 77th minute, producing a superb save to deny Doué from distance.

Monaco found late hope in the 91st minute when Jordan Teze converted from Simon Adingra’s cross to level the match at 2–2. PSG held firm through stoppage time, surviving a final Monaco free-kick to secure progression.

The European champions will now face either Chelsea or Barcelona in the next round.
