Norway secured a dramatic victory over Ivory Coast in Dallas, overcoming early African pressure and late-game heroics from Erling Haaland to set up a Round of 16 clash with Brazil.
Antonio Nusa’s opener and Amad Diallo’s equaliser set the stage for a tense encounter, with Haaland’s late winner and Ørjan Nyland’s crucial save ultimately defining the match.
During the opening half-hour, the West African side were impressive, with their high press forcing the Norwegian players deep into their own half while threatening an opening goal.
Ivory Coast’s Yan Diomande proved dangerous down the left as he slipped in Ghislain Konan, who cut inside before dragging his effort into the side netting.
Erling Haaland had a flurry of chances that he failed to capitalise on, including a header that lacked power and was comfortably saved by Yahia Fofana.
The Manchester City striker wore “Braut Haaland” his mother’s maiden name on the back of his shirt for his country.
Diomande continued to threaten down the left, delivering a cross to the far post. Nicolas Pépé cushioned a volley back across goal but failed to find the target.
Norway fans erupted to the beat of their drums and performed their famous Viking Clap in their thousands, bringing Scandinavian spirit to Dallas Stadium.
Ivory Coast captain Franck Kessié registered the first shot on target with a volley, but the effort looped comfortably into the hands of Ørjan Nyland.
Antonio Nusa eventually opened the scoring when he collected the ball on the left edge of the penalty area before curling a clinical effort into the far corner.

Norway’s bench charged onto the pitch to celebrate with Nusa after his superb strike.
Four minutes into first-half stoppage time, Nusa was shown a yellow card for tripping Pépé.
The second half saw both sides squander opportunities to score.
Pépé proved dangerous once again inside the penalty area, but Nyland was equal to his effort.
Ståle Solbakken made his first changes heading into the final quarter of the match, introducing Oscar Bobb and Andreas Schjelderup in place of Nusa and Alexander Sørloth.
Ivory Coast’s efforts were finally rewarded when substitute Amad Diallo combined with Pépé before beating Kristoffer Ajer and finishing coolly to equalise when it mattered most.

While Emerse Faé’s decision to leave the Manchester United winger out of the starting line-up drew criticism, Diallo’s impact from the bench proved decisive.
Norway responded by increasing their attacking intensity, and Haaland was the man who eventually secured victory.

Oscar Bobb drove forward down the right before finding Patrick Berg, whose square pass allowed Haaland to force the ball over the line and restore Norway’s lead in the closing minutes.
Seven minutes into stoppage time, Diallo came within inches of levelling the score after winning a free-kick following a foul by Martin Ødegaard.
His magnificent effort from 30 yards looked destined for the top corner until Nyland produced a superb fingertip save to push the ball over the crossbar.

Shattering the Ivory Coast supporters’ hopes.
Norway now face Brazil in the Round of 16, while Ivory Coast are left to reflect on a spirited display that ultimately ended in heartbreak.
