Barcelona sit 11 points clear at the top of La Liga, and a win or draw on Sunday night is all they need to be crowned champions. That sets the stage, but the headlines will largely focus on the Real Madrid dressing room and the reported internal conflicts surrounding the club.
The Catalan outfit are all but confirmed champions this season only a miracle could change what is becoming a formality. Barcelona have won 29, drawn one and lost four of their 34 league manches this season to collect 88 points.
Real Madrid, on the other hand, are facing a host of issues in what has been a disastrous season by their standards. Trophyless for the second season running, but perhaps most damaging of all are the reported tensions inside the dressing room.
Aurelien Tchouameni and Federico Valverde were reportedly involved in a physical confrontation on Wednesday, which unearthed a number of underlying issues that have seemingly been building throughout the season. Tempers are understood to have escalated further on Thursday, reportedly resulting in Valverde ending up in hospital due to a head injury.
According to reports, an emergency “crisis cabinet” meeting was held where no players were allowed to leave after the situation was addressed internally. Valverde and Tchouameni were reportedly fined €500,000 each, although no further sanctions were issued, meaning both remain in contention to play on Sunday fitness permitting in Valverde’s case.
The conflict has reportedly highlighted several wider issues at the club, including petitions allegedly calling for Kylian Mbappe to leave, tensions involving Antonio Rudiger and Carreras, and reports of players pretending to sleep during Xabi Alonso tactical meetings. Álvaro Arbeloa, speaking in his pre-match press conference, took responsibility, claiming:
“The fight between Valverde and Tchouameni was my fault.”
On the flip side, Barcelona continue to surge clear at the top of the table. Ten consecutive league wins have put them within touching distance of their 29th La Liga title and doing so against their fiercest rivals would make the occasion even sweeter.
They will be confident heading into the clash, particularly with Madrid seemingly imploding off the pitch while staring down the prospect of watching the Blaugrana celebrate the title in front of them. Real Madrid are on course to finish a second straight season without a major trophy amid growing turmoil.

Long-term absentee Andreas Christensen has returned to training following his knee injury, while Barcelona’s midfield and defensive structure is expected to remain largely unchanged.
Predicted Barcelona XI
J. Garcia; Kounde, Cubarsi, Martin, Cancelo; Gavi, Pedri, Fermin; Olmo, Rashford, Lewandowski.

Match Prediction
Barcelona do not necessarily need to win today, with their 11-point lead giving them a huge cushion over Los Blancos. However, they will undoubtedly want to secure the title in front of their greatest rivals, with a packed Camp Nou expected to create an electric atmosphere.
In all competitions, Barcelona have won five of the last six meetings between the two clubs. However, Real Madrid have also enjoyed success in recent years, winning five of the last 10 clashes including a memorable 4-0 victory at Camp Nou in the Copa del Rey semi-finals in April 2023.
We predict a resounding 3-1 victory for Barcelona.
Real Madrid will be desperate to make a statement in what has otherwise been a hugely disappointing campaign, but the script already feels written. Injuries, suspensions and reported unrest within the club appear to have left them distracted heading into one of the biggest matches of the season.
