Champions League Matchweek 3 Round Up: PSG make statement and Man United crumble with Kane delivering a masterclass against Arsenal

Matchweek three of this year’s Champions League saw goals galore with big wins for PSG, Manchester City, Real Madrid and Aston Villa.
18 games saw 74 goals, making it the second-highest-scoring matchweek in the competition’s history, as Nico Paz, Phil Foden, Rio Ngumoha and Alysson shone.
All four favourites were in action against each other; reigning champions PSG recorded a statement win against Barcelona while Bayern Munich and Arsenal played out a hard fought 2-2 draw.
Man City, Liverpool and Aston Villa all ran out victorious while Man United suffered a crushing 4-1 loss in Como.
PSG 4-2 Barcelona
This mouthwatering clash between the two best teams in Europe so far this season did not disappoint.
Barcelona twice pegged PSG back with goals from Xavi Espart and Lamine Yamal, but the hosts proved too strong in the end with goals from Desire Doue, Lucas Hernandez, Vitinha and Fabian Ruiz seeing them to victory.
Kvicha Kvaratskhelia suffered a ruptured ACL in the second half, ruling him out for the rest of the season, in a huge blow to PSG’s three-peat ambitions.
Ahead of Monday’s Ballon d’Or ceremony, Lamine Yamal reaffirmed his credentials with a fantastic solo goal.
Bayern Munich 2-2 Arsenal
Speaking of Ballon d’Or contenders, bookies' favourite Harry Kane delivered a masterclass against old foes Arsenal.
The striker assisted Alphonso Davies with an inch-perfect pass for Bayern’s first before winning and converting a penalty for their second.
Kane recorded 112 touches and even took a goal-kick that led to a big chance for Serge Gnabry, on Monday, he will hope to become the first Englishman to win the Balon d’Or since Michael Owen in 2001.
Arsenal lost Bukayo Saka to a quad injury early, and his replacement, Eberechi Eze, put them ahead.
The Gunners then conceded twice before Declan Rice powered into the box and equalised in the 82nd minute.
The teams match-up well and the game felt like a good teaser for a potential encounter later in the competition.
Como 4-1 Manchester United
Nico Paz lit up the Giuseppe Sinigaglia Stadium, recording two goals and an assist as Cesc Fabregas’ side put Michael Carrick on the brink.
The Argentinian was untouchable as he glided past players and his performance led Como to their first ever win against English opposition in their debut Champions League season.
Joshua Zirkzee’s first goal of the calendar year in added time offered little consolation.
Carrick is set to take charge against Bournemouth on the weekend, but United have begun the process of identifying replacements, according to the BBC.
Eddie Howe, Antonio Conte and Julian Nagelsmann are being touted as potential successors.

Liverpool 4-3 Villarreal
Rio Ngumoha had the best game of his young career, punishing Villarreal left-back Sergi Cardona on the way to two assists.
Liverpool started the game woefully; Virgil Van Dijk’s lazy header allowed Georges Mikautadze to put the visitors in front within five minutes.
The Spaniards went two up but had been pegged back by half-time with goals from Alexis Mac Alisster and Ronal Araujo.
The Reds clicked into gear in the second half as Ngumoha assisted Mac Allister and Florian Wirtz bagged his first of the season.
Liverpool conceded again late, and will be concerned by shipping three to both LASK and Villarreal despite winning both games.
18-year-old Ngumoha will hope his exploits are rewarded with a Premier League start against Brighton.
Manchester 5-1 AEK Athens
City bounced back from last week’s home loss to PSG by pummelling AEK Athens.
Phil Foden scored his fourth career hat-trick and provided an assist as Enzo Maresca’s side ran riot at the Etihad.
Foden had not scored since December 2025 before the weekend and now has four in his last two in a welcome return to form for the 26-year-old.
Elliot Anderson continued his wonderful debut season in sky blue, netting his first Champions League goal.
Ryan Cherki also bagged, while Rico Lewis recorded two assists in his return to the starting line-up.
Aston Villa 3-1 Viking
Villa continued their perfect start in Europe, seeing off Champions League newcomers Viking with goals from Ross Barkley, Emi Buendia and an own goal.
Brazilian right-winger Alysson was the star of the show, demonstrating pace and skill as he tormented the Norwegian’s defence, winning a penalty and causing Heggheim’s own goal.
Tougher tests await Unai Emery and his side as they host Manchester City on the weekend and then travel to the Nou Camp for their next Champions League tie.

Rounding up the rest
Elsewhere, Scott McTominay netted a brace as Napoli beat Bodo/Glimt 4-3.

Real Madrid smashed RB Leipzig 4-1 with goals from Bernardo Silva, Arda Guler, Mbappe and a stunner from Yan Diamonde.
Djed Spence started as 10-man Inter beat Shakhtar Donetsk 1-0.
