Real Madrid secured a 2-1 victory over Barcelona at Camp Nou on Sunday evening, with Kylian Mbappe scoring twice to end the Catalan side's perfect start to the La Liga campaign.

The Frenchman opened the scoring in the 41st minute through a fortunate deflection, before Raphinha equalised in the second half to give Hansi Flick's side hope of maintaining their unbeaten league record.

However, Mbappe struck again in the 87th minute to secure three points for Jose Mourinho's side, reducing the gap between the two Spanish giants to just three points in the La Liga title race.

Barcelona entered El Clasico having won all nine of their opening league fixtures and initially looked the more comfortable side, controlling possession and creating opportunities against their rivals.

Despite the hosts' dominance, Real Madrid broke the deadlock four minutes before half-time when Yan Diomande advanced down the left flank and delivered a low cross into the penalty area.

Gerard Martin attempted to clear the delivery, but his effort struck Mbappe and ricocheted past Joan Garcia into the bottom-left corner, giving the visitors the lead.

The goal marked Mbappe's 99th for Real Madrid and his 13th in just 11 appearances against Barcelona.

The Blaugrana nearly responded before the interval, but Lamine Yamal dragged his effort wide despite finding space inside the penalty area, while Diomande also missed an opportunity at the other end by firing into the side netting.

Barcelona continued to push forward after the break and eventually found their equaliser in the 61st minute through Raphinha.

Following a short corner, Pedri shaped to shoot before playing a pass into the Brazilian's path, allowing Raphinha to fire across Andriy Lunin for his 13th league goal of the campaign.

The hosts continued to create opportunities after drawing level, with Yamal curling an effort narrowly wide from distance as Barcelona looked to complete the turnaround.

Frenkie de Jong also saw an attempt blocked, while another effort from Yamal struck Dean Huijsen in the face before deflecting off Raphinha and away from danger.

However, Real Madrid regained their advantage three minutes from time after Gabriel Jesus lost possession, allowing Arda Guler and Eduardo Camavinga to combine in attack.

Camavinga moved into the penalty area, went past Pau Cubarsi and squared the ball for Mbappe, who finished beyond the onrushing Garcia to complete his brace.

The winner marked Mbappe's 100th goal for Real Madrid and took his tally against Barcelona to 14 goals in 11 appearances, with only Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema scoring more against the Catalan side this century.

Mourinho celebrated on the touchline as his side secured their 107th El Clasico victory, moving ahead in the historic head-to-head record after both clubs entered the encounter with 106 wins apiece.

The result also extended Mourinho's unbeaten run in El Clasico to six matches, while handing Barcelona their first league defeat of the season.

Despite the defeat, Flick's side remain top of La Liga with 27 points, although third-placed Real Madrid have now reduced the deficit to three points.

The result leaves Barcelona with a smaller advantage at the top of the table, while Real Madrid will look to build on their recent form as the title race continues.
